About Our Honorees
The Arc of Monmouth is proud to honor Carl and Mary Gross for their long-standing dedication, generosity, and commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the greater Monmouth County community.
Mary Gross grew up in a farming community in upstate New York before moving to Hillsborough, New Jersey in her late teens. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching and Spanish from Douglas College and a Master’s degree in Teaching Methodology from Monmouth University. Mary enjoyed a distinguished career as a Spanish teacher at Manalapan High School.
Carl P. Gross is a lifelong Monmouth County resident and graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Rutgers University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and Suffolk University Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor degree. In 1970, Carl established a law practice specializing in real estate, and in 1982, he co-founded G.B. Ltd. Oper. Co. Inc., a real estate management company where he continues to serve as President. Under his leadership, the company’s portfolio has grown to include over one million square feet of rentable space.
Together, Carl and Mary have built a life centered around family, service, and giving back to others. Married for 51 years, they are the proud parents of Zachary and uncle and aunt to Michael, both now with families of their own. Living in Monmouth Beach, they enjoy hobbies including sailing, skiing, photography, gardening, birdwatching, bike riding, Judaic studies, and car racing.
Both Carl and Mary have dedicated many years to the Boy Scouts of America. Mary volunteered with the organization for 15 years, while Carl has been extensively involved for more than 25 years, serving as President of Monmouth Council BSA, Cubmaster of Pack 1, and Scoutmaster of Troop 1 in Monmouth Beach. Among Carl’s proudest accomplishments is mentoring 16 Eagle Scouts. Together, they also support numerous organizations including Jewish Federation, AIPAC, Tikvot, Brothers for Life, Chabad of the Shore, the US Holocaust Memorial Fund, Monmouth University, and many others.
Their connection to The Arc of Monmouth became especially meaningful in 1998, when Mary began navigating care systems as guardian for her sister, Linda. Since 2000, Linda has been a resident in a group home with The Arc of Monmouth, where she continues to thrive. Seeing Linda happy, supported, and flourishing has made their relationship with The Arc deeply personal and profoundly rewarding.
